Flood Warning In Effect
A Flood Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for Kosciusko, Marshall, Fulton, Starke, Pulaski, White, Cass, Miami and Wabash counties.
The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana says up to 2 inches of rain has already fallen across the warning area and is expected to slowly diminish through the early morning hours. Runoff from the rain and the snow melt is draining to area streams, creeks and rivers and is causing some ponding issues on roadways.
A Flood Warning means flooding is imminent or has already been reported.
Indiana Conservation Officers are also warning motorists to use extra precautions, and they are prepared to respond to all water-related calls.
Equipped with boats and other water rescue equipment, officers are anticipating the possibility of an increased number of calls associated with the rising levels of rivers, creeks and streams. These levels can potentially cover roadways causing hazards.
Officers want to warn the public of the dangers associated with driving through flood waters. Residents who live or travel through areas prone to flooding should use extreme caution and follow these simple tips.
- Never drive around barricades at water covered roadways.
- Do not drive through flowing water. Drive with care at night. This is when it may be difficult to see barricades or flowing water.
- If you choose to abandon your vehicle, prepare for the fast moving water and seek higher ground immediately.
- Always travel with a fully charged cell phone.
- Turn Around Don’t Drown
