New Use For Historic Local Building
An old building has received a new lease on life.
The former Syracuse Church of the Brethren has been sold and is now being used by The Gathering Place of Northern Indiana to study, worship and meet.
If you’ve seen lights and other signs of life around the historic property at the corner of West Main and Mill streets, that is what has happened. Group leaders Larry and Barbara Rice have purchased the property at 304 W. Main St., Syracuse.
The Gathering Place has been in existence for three and half years, meeting in people’s homes. It meets weekly on the seventh-day Sabbath as well as on other special days including Passover, Shavuot, Yom Teruah, Yom Kippur and Sukkok.
Meeting times are based on the crescent moon for determining holidays. Saturday gathering occur from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with food and fellowship to follow. From 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. prayer and sharing occurs.
According to the website, www.thegatheringplaceindiana.com, “the group, in addition to the reading of Scripture, singing and prayer, we have an open discussion of the above portions and an opportunity for believers to use their gifts for the building up of the Body of Messiah.”
Believers and students are striving to literally follow the example of our redeemer and teacher, Yeshua, through the truth of the scripture and the power of his spirit. The ministry is leaning and teaching, outreach, and service,” said the website.
The group has attracted several families with young children and welcomes anyone interested to attend or visit the website or email the [email protected].
