Schram To Play For Lancers
WARSAW – The Grace College men’s golf program has received a very nice Christmas gift.
Jon Schram, a former standout golfer at Warsaw Community High School, will play for the Lancers this coming spring season.
Schram, a 2013 WCHS graduate, has decided to attend Grace starting in January after spending one semester at Ball State University.
Schram helped coach Ben Barkey’s WCHS program to four appearances in the State Finals during his outstanding prep career. He earned All-State honors during both his junior and senior seasons playing for the Tigers.
Schram was the individual regional champion for Warsaw last June, shooting a 69 at the Stonehenge Golf Club. He made an eagle on his final hole to earn regional medalist honors and help Warsaw win the regional team championship.
The Tigers also won four regional titles and three sectional championships during Schram’s high school career. He earned All-NLC honors three times for the Tigers.
Schram played in two fall events at Ball State. His stroke average was 79.17 for the pair of tournaments.
The Lancers, with the addition of Schram, will look for big things in 2014. Denny Hepler, himself a former standout at WCHS, heads into his second season as the Lancers’ head coach. Hepler, who owns the Raccoon Run Golf Course in Warsaw, guided the Lancers to a strong season in 2013. Grace set program records for both 18 and 36 hole team scores in the Crossroads League Tournament last season under Hepler.
