Christmas Eve Assault Suspect Is Habitual Offender
On the afternoon of Christmas Eve, police arrested a Warsaw man following an alleged battery that left one man seriously injured.
According to police records filed by Warsaw Police Department Officer Wayne Wilkie, Quentin Keith Latham, 30, of 314 N. Buffalo St. 1/2, Warsaw, assaulted 55-year-old Larry Fabian, a Pepsi employee, at the Marathon gas station and Pak-A-Sak convenience store located at 330 E. Center St., Warsaw.
Police were called to the gas station at the corner of Detroit and Center streets following a call from Pak-A-Sak employee Debrah Green, who apparently witnessed the altercation.
Fabian, who suffered serious injuries, was transported by Multi-Township EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital as a result of the battery. Latham was arrested for B felony aggravated battery and C felony battery causing serious/permanent disfigurement. Latham is also noted to be a habitual offender which means, if found guilty on these charges, would have additional time added to his sentence.
According to court records, this was not the first time Latham had been arrested for crimes of violence. On March 20, Latham was arrested by police in Plymouth on a warrant for strangulation and criminal confinement, both D felony charges, as well as domestic battery and interference with reporting a crime, both A misdemeanor charges.
According to Marshall County court documents, on June 6, 2013, Latham accepted a plea agreement that found him guilty of the criminal confinement charge and dropped all other charges. Latham was sentenced to 180 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections, but IDOC records say he was released on Sept. 15, but that date does not coincide with additional charges that were brought against him just one month after his sentencing in Marshall County.
Latham saw another felony and misdemeanor charge dismissed in Kosciusko County. On July 29, Latham was arrested for D felony sexual battery and a Class C misdemeanor count of indecent exposure. Latham saw both of those charges dismissed, but we have so far been unable to determine why those charges were dismissed.
Latham was released from jail on his own recognizance and is now ordered to appear in Kosciusko County Superior Court I at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.
