Updates to the Library
The teen area has taken on a new and improved look. Thanks to the carpentry skills of Rex Miller, we now have a beautiful window seat! Now teens have an inviting area to sit and relax while reading their favorite book or magazine. In addition to the window seat, we have added a sleek coffee table and pouf seats for added comfort. Stop by and see it soon!
Work it By Kaitlyn Arford
Many make it a goal to lose weight or eat healthier after the holiday season or for a New Year’s resolution. However, any time of year can be the perfect time to become a healthier version of you. Milford Public Library has materials available to help you on this journey.
Fitness classes take time and money. For a more flexible option that includes guided exercises with trainers, try fitness DVDs. Louise Solomon’s Yoga and Pilates; The Biggest Loser: The Workout; The Firm: The 500 Calorie Workout and Yoga Body Burn are a small sample of fitness DVDs available at the library. These titles and more can be found in the 600 section of our DVD collection.
Dance off extra pounds with the Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation DVD set. This program provides a diverse workout, including routines for flat abs, toning muscles and an express 20 minutes workout. Ask for this item at the adult circulation desk.
Those who prefer to create their own exercise routine can use books. A few titles include Jumpstart to Skinny: the simple three week plan for supercharged weight loss and Chubster: a hipster’s guide to losing weight while staying cool. Fitness books can be found under Dewey Decimal 600 classification.
Healthy eating is an essential part of any fitness program. The collection of over fifty cookbooks in the 641 section of adult nonfiction offers recipes that make eating healthy delicious and easy. Good Housekeeping Easy Gluten-free: healthy and delicious recipes for every meal and Salad for Dinner: simple recipes for salads that make a meal are only two cookbooks available that are dedicated to healthy recipes.
For more motivation, reward yourself with an hour of reading a library book after an hour of working out. Listening to audiobooks or watching movies during a workout can also make sweating more fun. The Milford Public Library staff is willing to help you locate any of the materials mentioned in this article, as well as anything else you may need.
