Wawasee Sports Wrap – Jan. 14
Offensive Woes Again For Lady Warriors
Finding the bottom of the bucket has been an issue for Wawasee the past month of girls basketball. Averaging just under 30 points per game in its last six contests, Wawasee couldn’t reach its average in a 32-25 loss at Columbia City Tuesday night.
In just an 11-9 score at the half in favor of the hosts, Columbia City had averaged 59 points per game during its modest three-game win streak heading into the night. But the offensive drought bit Wawasee hardest in the third quarter, mustering just one point while Columbia City ran out to a nine-point cushion heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Eagles (11-5) had eight girls score, but eight points was the high mark, attained by Aubrey Wright. Wawasee put together 15 points in the fourth quarter, seven of those coming from high scorer Kylee Rostochak in a 10-point total. Aubrey Schmeltz had seven points, all in the second half, and Elizabeth Jackson chipped in six points.
The Columbia City JV had no trouble scoring points, running up a 49-21 result against Wawasee’s junior varsity.
Wawasee (2-10) will jump back into Northern Lakes Conference action Saturday with a trip to Elkhart Memorial. The JV time for the game has been moved up to noon, with the varsity game to follow.
Westview Earns Freshman Win
In a close freshman boys basketball game Tuesday night, Westview held its home court in a 26-24 win against Wawasee.
Carter Jones led the visiting Warriors (6-5) with seven points and Adrian Crabb tossed in five points.
Monday is the next night Wawasee will play, hosting Northridge.
