Shepherd Stellar In Triton Victory
CULVER – The road woes for the Triton boys basketball team ended Friday night.
Tanner Shepherd made sure his Trojans would have one happy bus ride home from Culver.
Shepherd lit up the Cavaliers as Triton used a strong finish for a key 64-56 win in Northern State Conference play.
Senior Shepherd poured in 35 points, including hitting four of his team’s nine treys. The southpaw guard was also 11-11 from the free throw line in his terrific performance.
Triton, which had lost four in a row on the road, knocked off the Class 1-A No. 7 Cavaliers with free throws and 3-point shooting. The Trojans hit 19-24 free throws in the win and nine from distance. Culver was just 6-8 from the line.
Culver led 17-12 after the first quarter, 30-27 at halftime and 44-43 entering the final frame. The Trojans closed the contest by outscoring the hosts 21-12 in the fourth quarter.
Skyler Reichert had 15 points and hit a trio of treys for the Trojans.
Triton improves to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in NSC play. Culver drops to 7-2 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Jacoda Anderson netted 19 points and Trent Elliott 16 to lead Culver.
The pair of teams could meet again next week in the Bi-County Tournament semifinals.
Triton plays at New Prairie and Culver travels to John Glenn for first round games in the tourney Tuesday night.
