BREAKING: Bank Robber Pursued, Shot [UPDATED]
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police are currently investigating an alleged bank robbery and pursuit that ended in an apparent suicide in the southeast portion of Kosciusko County Friday night.
Kosciusko County officials were notified shortly after 6 p.m. of a bank robbery suspect vehicle being pursued into Kosciusko County on SR 13 by a North Manchester police officer. At approximately 6:08 p.m., the suspect vehicle stopped on SR 13 near the intersection of SR 14 but refused to exit his vehicle. Moments later, a firearm was discharged from inside the pickup truck, according to officers.
Officers from South Whitley Police Department arrived shortly afterward and approached the vehicle, along with the North Manchester officer, and determined that the male suspect was suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but immediately summoned the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson pronounced the individual deceased from injuries that appeared to be consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Initial information from the Indiana State Police Peru District indicates that the suspect enter into the First Financial Bank of North Manchester, located at 106 N. Market St., shortly before 6 p.m. The suspect then fled after apparently robbing a teller.
Due to the current on-going investigation by both agencies, the name of the officer involved in the pursuit, along with the deceased suspect, are not currently being released.
