UPDATE: ISP Offers Bank Robbery Information
(UPDATE: Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Chad Hill this morning confirmed to StaceyPageOnline.com that the man who allegedly robbed the North Manchester First Financial Bank on Friday evening then shot and killed himself during a police pursuit, was David John Mills, 22, of Columbia City.)
Detectives from the Indiana State Police in Peru are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Friday evening at the First Financial Bank in North Manchester.
The preliminary investigation revealed that, at approximately 6 p.m., a lone male, allegedly armed with a handgun, entered the bank at 106 N. Market St., North Manchester, and demanded money.
Within moments, the suspect exited the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, got on a bicycle and rode a short distance to a Ford Ranger pickup truck. A witness oberseved this and followed the truck while relaying the information to 911 dispatchers.
Officers from the North Manchester Police Department caught up to the truck and as they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect attempted to evade them as he entered Kosciusko County on SR 13.
According to First Sergeant Chad Hill with the Kosciusko County Sheriff Department, the suspect stopped his vehicle on SR 13, just north of SR 14. As he was being given numerous verbal commands by officers, he reportedly turned his firearm on himself inside of his truck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson “from injuries that appeared to be consistent to self-inflicted gunshot wounds.”
The Kosciusko County Sheriff Department is handling the investigation as to the incident in their jurisdiction and questions pertaining to that should be directed to them directly.
