At about 10:30 a.m. an accident on U.S. 30 and Fir Road near Bourbon claimed the life of Jarica Tyson. Investigators determined Tyson was driving southbound on Fir Road when she turned into the path of the westbound semi trailer truck. The semi ran over Tyson’s car and killed her instantly.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said the county has remained under a Watch Level Travel Advisory since yesterday morning, advising only emergency personnel and those in emergency situations to be traveling.
Travel conditions in most area counties, including Kosciusko, are treacherous and authorities are urging travels to stay off the roads, except for emergencies.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Tom Chamberlin said poor road conditions resulted in the fatality. County Plows have been out clearing roads, but winds proving their efforts futile.
Wind chills and cold temps will continue to cause conditions to deteriorate today through Monday morning. If you do choose to travel, wear multiple layers, make sure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel, let someone know where you are going and check in when you get there and take a cell phone and extra blankets with you. If you do get stuck, call for help immediately.
Cold temperatures can cause frostbite and hypothermia very quickly. Check on elderly neighbors and any at risk people.
