Craig Eugene Sherbahn
Craig Eugene Sherbahn, 61, of South Whitley, Ind., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Jan. 28, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1952. He graduated from South Whitley High School and received his Bachelor of Science in agriculture education in 1974 and Masters of Animal Science degree in 1977 from Purdue University. On April 20, 1986, he was united in marriage to Pamela S. Eberly Nixon. They have always made their home in South Whitley.
In 1985 he began his employment with Farmers Elevator Company, now Ag Plus. He also assisted his parents with Sherbahn Auctioneer Services. He was a member of South Whitley United Methodist Church; active with 4-H activities including Whitley County 4-H Inc. where he served as president, vice president and secretary; organized and founded the Premier Stockman Lamb & Steer Classic in Columbia City for 20 years and originated and founded the Premier Stockman Judging Contest; served on Hoosier Beef Congress in Indianapolis from 1988 until 1999, former director of Indiana Sheep and Wool Council from 1995 until 1999, Indiana Dorset Association Breed Manager for Indiana State Fair from 1994 until 1999; a member of the 1974 Purdue Livestock Judging Team that won the National Barrow Show, North Central Regional Contest, American Royal and Chicago International, placing in top six individually; was Purdue Livestock Judging Team Advisory Board member from 1998 to 1999; Great Lakes Regional Dorset Show manager in 1997 and 1999; Whitley County Extension board member from 1985 to 1988; Whitley County Beef Club Advisory board member from 1984 to 1989; Cattle Barn Director of Indiana State Fair from 2000 until 2008 and on Executive Committee from 2001 to 2008.
He is survived by his wife; two children: Ted Nixon, South Whitley; and Cari (Travis) Juillerat, Larwill, Ind.; a grandson: Wyatt Nixon; and a brother: John (Jill) Sanders, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley and after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 at South Whitley United Methodist church, 6685 West SR 14. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at the church. Burial will be held in the South Whitley cemetery.
