Possible Winter Storms Brewing For Kosciusko
A recent post circulating across the Internet has left many believing a major snow storm will hit Kosciusko County this coming week. However, according to the National Weather Service, it is still too early for accurate predictions or snowfall estimates for the coming week.
Though it is still unsure what to expect with next week’s weather, the National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of northwest Ohio, northern Indiana and southwest lower Michigan.
According to the NWS, light snowfall is likely to overspread the region during the late afternoon and could continue into this evening. Snowfall totals will be light, generally only amounting to an inch or less. In addition, south winds will increase to 25 mph today with gusts around 35 mph and will cause blowing and drifting snow in rural and open areas, especially on east to west roads. The wind will also make travel difficult for high profile vehicles on east to west roadways.
The NWS indicates a low pressure system will move through the southern Great Lakes on Saturday, though there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact strength and track. However, a mix of snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain appears likely across the area. The NWS states that at this time, snowfall amounts are expected to be around 1 inch to 4 inches with minor ice accumulations. However, northward shift in the track of this low could lead to a longer period of rain and less snowfall.
Yet another low pressure system is expected to track through the Ohio Valley on Tuesday into Wednesday. The NWS indicates that significant differences still exist between computer models regarding the strength and track of the system but there is potential for another winter storm to impact the area. The NWS states that it remains too far in advance to predict snowfall amounts and location with any accuracy.
