Four School Records Fall At Taylor Invitational
UPLAND – In just their second indoor meet of the season, Grace’s track and field teams broke four school records at the Taylor University Invite on Saturday.
Nathan Brown and Jo Boren highlighted Grace’s day as the sophomore duo had a hand in two records each.
“I thought we made some key improvements in the last week. Some of the young athletes are learning new events and learning how to compete at this level,” said Grace coach Jeff Raymond. “Besides the school records, we had several other personal-best performances, so that makes for a successful event.”
The Taylor Invite featured 12 teams and over 600 athletes. No team scores were kept for the indoor meet.
Brown placed second in both the high jump (6-feet-4.75) and the long jump (22-1.75), breaking Grace’s record for each event in the process.
Boren improved her own school record in the 400-meter run, finishing in 1:02.35 for third place. She then led off the 4×200 relay team of Erin Jones, Lindsey Young and Alicia Hertzler that crossed the line in 1:50.72, the fastest time in school history.
The women’s 4×800 relay squad of Jenna McClellan, Katelyn McCullough, Allison Zylstra and Rachel Fehring finished fourth in 10:13.04, and the men’s 4×800 relay team (Jonathan Rex, Donovan Graham, Brendon Lengacher, Matthew Lee) echoed their fourth-place showing.
For the men’s team, Lance Taylor was third in the 400 (51.79 seconds), Graham was fourth in the 600 (1:25.54), and Rex was fifth in the 1000 (2:39.14).
The Lancers will tackle their third indoor meet of the season next Saturday at the IWU Invitational.
