Park Board Looks Forward To Spring
There’s still plenty of snow on the ground and the roads are icy, but the Syracuse Park Board is looking forward to spring as it received an update on the Syracuse-Wawasee’s Blue Star Highway project at its regular monthly meeting Monday night.
Advisor Carol Koble told the board the garden club has applied for the plaque, which will be set on a rock in Crosson Mill Park most likely near the cannon. Details are still being worked out on when to have a dedication ceremony.
Jerry Riffle of the Syracuse Tree Board reported the tree board is looking forward to spring tree planting. About 10 trees will be planted when the weather warms up.
Chad Jonsson, park superintendent, reported the Syracuse-Wawasee Trail Project is seeking letters of support for the SR 13 segment. He asked if the park board would provide a letter supporting the project; the request was approved. Plans are still in the works to complete the Eastshore and Northshore drives section of trail in the spring.
Middlebury Electric has reported installing the light poles is the second project on its list and if the weather warms up a bit, the work can be done. Jonsson explained workers want the ground to be frozen as it will require a crane to install the light poles.
Jonsson is waiting for warmer weather in order to fix the damage from the Nov. 17 storm.
Jonsson had a builder come in and look at the possibility of removing a wall in the fitness room to make it bigger. Jonsson has a price and will now seek grants to help with the cost of the work and purchasing new equipment.
