Allen Shines Again In Warrior Win
SYRACUSE – It doesn’t happen often, but it happened Thursday night at Wawasee.
Using another strong performance from senior Emily Allen and enough support from the cast, Wawasee managed to take down perennial power Elkhart Central 94.525-92.925 in gymnastics action in the WHS annex gym.
Allen put together the night’s top all-around score at 33.225, which included the top beam score of 8.9 and the second-best floor effort at 8.3, only bested by teammate Molly Smith’s 8.45. Allen also contributed a second place score of 7.575 on bars and third place 8.45 on vault. Taylor Busse added a 7.2 on bars, good for third overall.
Elkhart Central’s Stabler sisters provided the team’s biggest punch. Kiara Stabler led all vaulters with an 8.9 and Alena Stabler posted the top bars figure with a 7.825. Alena Stabler racked up a 32.625 to lead the Central all-around scoring.
In Wawasee junior varsity figures, Haleigh Smarr posted a 7.5 on floor and Ashleigh Frecker a 6.6 on beam, both top meet scores. Wawasee’s compliment totaled a 59.575 team score, besting Central’s minimal roster by 31 points.
“We know when we go against Elkhart Central it is going to be a tough meet,” stated Wawasee head coach Nika Prather. “They are a very talented team. Glad to get the victory tonight but we still have so much to improve before sectionals.”
Wawasee (4-3) returns to the equipment next Thursday when the team travels to Huntington North for a dual. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
