Local Flooding Potential To Rise
The city of Warsaw would like to remind residents and businesses that as much awaited warmer temperatures come and the snow begins to melt, there will be areas that have the potential for flooding.
Temperatures for next week are predicted to be well above freezing. Keeping storm drains free from debris and snow will play an important role in reducing that risk. The Public Works Department has been working hard clearing storm inlets so that water can enter the storm sewer. However, with 1,154 inlets, the Public Works Department will not be able to clear them all.
If you are experiencing flooding and you are aware of storm inlets that are snow covered, you can call the Public Works Department at 574-372-9561. If you are able, you can clear the snow off of the top of the inlet to facilitate drainage.
Residents and businesses should also be aware that the ground has frozen deeper than usual this winter. Buildings with sump pits and pumps should make sure those lines have not frozen and the water has a clear path to travel. It would also be advisable to make sure your sump pump is operation to avoid basement flooding.
