Grace Softball Squad Posts First Win
PULASKI, Tenn. – The Grace College softball team notched its first victory of the season on Saturday, coming back to beat Bryan 8-7 at the Martin Methodist Meltdown.
The Lady Lancers (1-3) also fell 10-3 to No. 11 Lindsey Wilson in the final game of the tournament.
Brooke Shell was perfect from the plate against Bryan, going 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. She also stole a base and drove in two runners. Freshman Hannah Adams provided the game-winning hit to lift Grace past the Lions (0-2).
Alex Shipley took the win from the mound, allowing one run on two hits. Clarissa Knight had two RBIs and two hits in the win, and Brittany Melzoni also notched two hits.
In the second game against No. 11 Lindsey Wilson, Grace gave up a run in the top half of the first only to tie the game in the bottom half.
The Blue Raiders held a slight 4-3 lead heading into the fourth inning before tacking on six more insurance runs to close out the game.
Brooke Shell was again the offensive star for Grace, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Shell finished the four-game tournament going 10-for-14 from the plate with seven runs and five RBIs. She tallied three doubles and two triples and was either scored or drove in 12 of the team’s 19 runs. Jordan McKinley added two hits, and Olivia Winget drove in another run against Lindsey Wilson.
The Lady Lancers will take two weeks off competition before resuming play on their spring break trip. Grace will play 10 games in seven days down in Clermont, Fla.
