Goshen Author Reveals ‘Shallow Water’ Secrets
GOSHEN — Author D. Rudd Wise releases book three of his adventures in The Shallow’s Deep Secrets Vol. 3, where he takes the readers on a leisurely segment of mystery and adventure for shallow water treasure hunting.
The Shallow’s Deep Secrets Vol. 3, carries the reader along with Jess E. Hanes and his wife, Marie Ann, as they explore history on and in the rivers and lakes of the Great American Loop cruise around Eastern United States. They make their home on a 42-foot Nordic Tug trawler during a 6,500-mile 14-month adventure.
The cruise starts in Benton Harbor, Mich., across Lake Michigan to Chicago, down to the Mississippi River to Florida, and then up the east coast to the Hudson Bay, over to the Erie Canal and then across the Great Lakes, and ends back in Benton Harbor, Mich. It will be a 12 to 13 month cruise.

Wise, author of the Jess E. Hanes adventure/mystery novels, was born in Dallas. He was raised in the oil fields and cattle country from Crane to Odessa to Forsan. He spent his first year of college at Texas Tech University before joining the U.S. Navy in June 1955, for 12 years. Later he retired from the U.S. Air Force, a total of 24 years of service. Since then he obtained his private pilot’s license, received his scuba diver’s certification, and dove on Spanish galleons off the coast of Florida.
