Treys, Free Throws Key Triton Win
ROCHESTER – The Triton boys basketball team recovered from a slow start Tuesday night to romp past Rochester.
The Trojans were dialed in from distance and fine from the line in whipping the host Zebras 71-49 in non-conference play.
Rochester bolted to a 20-15 lead after the opening period of play. From there, it was all Triton as the Trojans outscored the hosts 16-2 in the second quarter and 20-8 in the third period.
Triton, which improved to 11-6 with its seventh win in its last eight games, hit 9-21 on 3-point tries and went 26-30 from the free throw line in the win.
Skyler Reichert drilled in 20 points, including hitting 6-10 from distance, to pace the Triton offense.
Tanner Shepherd turned in a big all-around effort with 17 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists for the Trojans.
Joey Corder tallied 13 points and Jordan Anderson added nine for Triton.
Alec Gehrich scored 19 points and Alec Holland had 13 to lead the Zebras, who drop to 4-12 with their sixth straight loss. Rochester was just 5-7 from the line in the game.
Triton won the junior varsity contest by a 39-35 final.
Triton plays at Tippecanoe Valley Friday night.
