Winter All-NLC Awards Filter In
GOSHEN – The winter sports seasons aren’t quite finished, but the Northern Lakes Conference has released a majority of its All-NLC teams.
Four of the five NLC sports lists were issued Monday from conference secretary Larry Kissinger. Teams for girls basketball, boys and girls swimming, and wrestling were formally released.
Boys basketball has not officially completed its conference schedule as Wawasee and Plymouth have a make-up game scheduled for this Thursday. Northridge has won the basketball conference with its 7-0 mark, one game ahead of NorthWood. The NLC will distribute its All-NLC teams at a later date.
The Northern Lakes Conference does not host conference affiliation for participating gymnastics programs.
Northridge already had formal basketball celebrations in the NLC this season as the girls basketball team went 6-1 to claim the title outright, one game ahead of NorthWood, Plymouth and Warsaw, which finished with 5-2 records. The Lady Raiders had four of its starting five on the All-NLC list in Morgan Miller, Brianne O’Dell, Taylor Miller and Mikaela Zook. Coach Doug Springer was named Coach of the Year.
Warsaw’s Nikki Grose was named to the All-NLC list while teammates Eryn Leek and Brooklyn Harrison were both tabbed Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Kylee Rostochak was the lone member of Wawasee’s 1-6 team to garner honors, taking an All-NLC nod.
In girls swimming, Wawasee ran the table at 7-0 to claim its first team title in 16 years. The Lady Warriors had five on the All-NLC list in Bre Robinson, Kendra Miller, Kayla Hershberger, Paige Miller and Shelby Adams. Mikala Mawhorter was also listed as Honorable Mention All-NLC for the Lady Warriors while coach Julie Robinson took season honors.
Warsaw finished its season 2-5 in the NLC and had Brenna Morgan crack the All-NLC list.
The Northridge boys again stormed the swim season with another 7-0 finish and had swimmers win eight of the 12 events at the conference championship. Nine individuals from Coach of the Year Joe Keller’s squad were named All-NLC in Jonathan Stoller, Spencer Lehman, Taylor Berkey, Jeremy Burbink, Takoda Friesen, Conner Sandt, Seth Cripe, Jesse Drake and Camden Koch while teammates Chayton Friesen and Logan Elijah were Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Warsaw were runner-up in the conference at 6-1 and had Spencer Davidson, Jayden Parrett and Josh Miller garner All-NLC nods while Zachary Taylor was named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Wawasee finished 3-4 overall and had Logan Brugh named All-NLC and Zac Hershberger Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Plymouth had a mighty fine Northern Lakes Conference wrestling regular season, sweeping the conference with a perfect 7-0 record and dethroning Memorial in the process. Coach of the Year Bob Read’s team had seven individuals take conference honors with Triston Rodriguez, Drew Dodson, Aaron Houin and Cody Allmon earning All-NLC awards and Jeremy Splix, Nolan Wright and Vincente Vasquez taking Honorable Mention All-NLC honors.
Warsaw concluded its wrestling round robin 3-4 and had Kyle Hatch earn All-NLC honors and Anthony Hendrickson an Honorable Mention All-NLC nod.
Wawasee were 0-7 in the conference but had Michael Pena take All-NLC honors and Tristin Ponsler Honorable Mention All-NLC honors.
The Northern Lakes Conference wrestling tournament was cancelled after several attempts to host were thwarted due to inclement weather.
