Leagues Combine Into Wawasee Community Youth League
SYRACUSE – The town youth leagues from Milford, Syracuse and North Webster will combine into one league starting this season, forming the Wawasee Community Youth League. The board for the new league will be served by representatives from the old league administrations.
The WCYL will join the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken organization, a national organization that oversees youth leagues, with coaches from the WCYL being certified under the Babe Ruth organization. Noted in the Babe Ruth format is a tournament at the end of the season, referred to as a World Series, that allows teams locally to play other teams from around the area and potentially the country.
Locally, T-Ball, machine pitch and boys minors will continue to be held in each town. Girls minor and major softball as well as boys major baseball will become a combined program with a general draft.
Sign-ups will continue in the usual manner, with forms available at all the schools and letters sent to parents with information. Sign-ups for 13-14 year old programs are available in the middle school offices.
There will be a player skills assessment March 22-23 from 1-4 p.m. at Wawasee High School. All players in minors and up should plan on attending, including middle school-aged players.
