Andrews, Shepherd, NorthWood Duo Tabbed
INDIANAPOLIS – A total of 14 area senior boys basketball players have been named to the Top 100 list compiled by Hoosier Basketball Magazine.
The list of 100 will be trimmed to 60 by further evaluation during the ongoing state tournament series. Those 60 seniors will be invited to the Top 60 Workout on April 6 at Marian University in Indianapolis.
Headlining the list of local players is standout Tanner Andrews of Tippecanoe Valley. The three-sport star, who will play baseball at Purdue, led the Vikings to a Three Rivers Conference championship. Andrews, who went over 1,000 career points during his senior season, was the top scorer for coach Bill Patrick’s squad.
Also making the list is Tanner Shepherd of Triton, who also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark this season. Shepherd helped Triton to a state finals appearance in 2013 and was a three-time sectional champion.
The list also features NorthWood teammates Zach Zurcher and Jonathan Wilkinson. The pair will lead the No. 5 Panthers into the Class 3-A Blackford Regional Saturday. Zurcher and Wilkinson, who each went over 1,000 career points this season, are the top two scorers for coach Aaron Wolfe’s 21-2 team.
Also tabbed to the Top 100 list are Joey Atkins (Bremen), Devonte Campbell (Culver Academy), Terry Davis (South Bend Adams), Trent Elliott (Culver), Tra’veon Johnson (South Bend Washington), Mack Mercer (Plymouth), Kyle Platt (Huntington North), Nate Richie (Northridge), Drew Schermerhorn (West Noble) and Ja’Mare Washington (South Bend Riley).
