Ellis Helton, 70, of Silver Lake, Ind., passed away at 4:06 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at his residence.

He was born March 23, 1943, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to John and Myrtle (Hale) Helton. He married Mary J. Gillespie on March 4, 1988. She survives.

He was a Vietnam Army Veteran. He was formerly employed at Kralis Brothers, Mentone, Ind.; Parker Feeders, Silver Lake, and Dalton Foundry, Warsaw, Ind. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing and spent a lot of time doing odd jobs for family and friends.

Other survivors included two sons: John L. Helton, Mentone; and David E. Helton, Silver Lake; two daughters: Sheila R. Helton, Argos, Ind.; and Crystal R. Helton, Silver Lake; two brothers: Fred (Lourena) Helton, Warsaw; and Don (Janet) Helton, Silver Lake; two sisters: Elsie Dotson, Prestonsburg, Ky.; and Emma Sloane, Warsaw; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 W., North Manchester, Ind. Services will be  at 11 a.m. Wednesday March 19, at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Bradford will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
