Cover Crop Workshop In Pierceton
Cover Crop use is gaining popularity as a conservation management tool that not only protects soils over the winter, but captures and recycles nutrients the following cropping year.
On Saturday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, a Cover Crop Workshop will be held to share information about this conservation practice at the J.A. Scott Farm, 6281 Van Ness Rd., Pierceton.
Workshop topics will include: Cover Crops and Crop Rotation and the Impact on Soil Health, Spring Management with a Focus on Burndown, Myths and Cover Crops Opportunities through USDA Programs.
Participants will also go to the field to view cover crop test plots that include 40 single species and 20 mixed species plots. Additionally, there will be a field root pit study (weather permitting) to demonstrate cover crop root penetration and soil structure benefits.
The event is being hosted and presented by JA Scott Farms and is sponsored by the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District.
There are no registration fees. This workshop is being provided as a service to the agriculture community.
