Grose Picked For McDonald’s Game
MISHAWAKA – Warsaw’s Nikki Grose will get another chance to showcase her skills for area basketball fans.
The Warsaw senior has been selected to participate in the McDonald’s Michiana All-Star Game on March 31.
Grose, a 6-0 center, led the Tigers in scoring and rebounding her senior season. The Indiana Tech recruit was a major factor in 2012-13 as a junior when the Tigers posted a 24-2 mark and won conference, sectional and regional championships.
Grose is slated to play for the Red team in the third annual event. The girls game will tip-off at 5 p.m. in the Wiekamp Center on the Bethel College campus on March 31. The boys all-star game will follow.
The Red roster will also feature the outstanding duo of Ashley Campbell and Haley Collings from Class 1-A state champion Oregon-Davis. Khadijah Moore, a senior at Elkhart Memorial and Ball State recruit, is also slated to suit up for the Red squad.
The Red team also includes Jenna Thomas (South Bend Adams), Kelsey Gushrowski (LaPorte), Nashaye Sutton (Benton Harbor) and Taloni Reese (South Bend Adams).
Jaclyn Heath of LaPorte will be an honorary member of the Red team.
Jim Arnold, an assistant coach for the Bethel women’s team, will coach the Red team.
The Gray team will feature a pair of NorthWood senior standouts in Morgan Olson and Taylor Fielstra. Olson, the program’s all-time leading scorer, is bound for Youngtown State, while Fielstra will play at Bethel.
The Gray team will be coached by Larry Fielstra, the former highly-successful girls coach at Elkhart Memorial. Fielstra resigned in May of 2011 after posting a 161-40 mark in eight seasons at Memorial, including a 46-10 record in the Northern Lakes Conference. Fielstra, who played at Bethel College and is a guidance counselor at Memorial, won eight straight Class 4-A sectional championships.
The Gray roster also features Caroline Buhr and Jess Alexander of Class 4-A state runner-up Penn, along with the Mishawaka trio of Taylor Parmley, Paige Avery and Kaitlin Elsasser. Erin Guzicki of Mishawaka Marian completes the team.
Maya Solomon of Penn will be an honorary member of the Gray team.
Admission to the All-Star games are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Those ages 12 and younger will be admitted for free.
