UPDATE: Barn Fire In Mentone
Mentone Fire Department responded to a barn fire located at 11620 W. 600 S. in Mentone at approximately 2 p.m. today.
According to Mike Yazel of Mentone Fire Department, the fire was the result of brush being burned too close to the structure. Though the fire was extinguished within an hour, the barn did become fully engulfed and flames spread to a nearby tree.
According to scanner traffic, a resident of the property did reportedly enter the building to retrieve items during the blaze and was able to exit safely. No one was injured in the fire and no animals were being stored within the structure at the time of the fire.
Burket Fire Department, which was called initially for a full assist, was dismissed. Mentone EMS was on scene. Damages are estimated at approximately $10,000.
