Triton Softball Among Ranked
Several area prep softball teams, including Triton, are ranked in the preseason polls released by the ICGSA.
The Trojans checked in at No. 14 in the preseason Class 1-A poll.
Triton, led by record-setting pitcher Mallorie Jennings, won a school record 22 games in 2013. The Trojans also claimed just the second sectional championship in program history. Triton lost in the regional to eventual state champion Lakewood Park Christian.
The highest preseason ranking among area teams belongs to Northridge. The Raiders, who won the Northern Lakes Conference title a year ago, are ranked No. 2 in Class 4-A. Northridge went 26-2 a year ago, losing 2-0 to eventual state champion Portage in a semi state semifinal game.
The Class 4-A poll also has South Bend Riley at No. 12 and perennial power Penn at No. 13.
The Class 3-A poll has Fairfield at No. 5 with South Bend St. Joseph No. 6 and Mishawaka Marian No. 7. Rochester is No. 10 with Lakeland at No. 15.
A pair of Northern State Conference teams appear in the Class 2-A poll. Bremen is No. 5 and LaVille is No. 26. Winamac checked in at No. 15.
The Class 1-A poll also has NSC member Culver at No. 22.
