SWAT Team On Target In Webster [VIDEO]
NORTH WEBSTER – A busy night of volleyball at the North Webster Community Center had SWAT Team maintain its hold as the top team this season in the North Webster Coed Volleyball League. In beating Boomers 25-10, 25-14 in the finals of the tournament, SWAT Team finished its season 25-3 and were barely challenged in its three matches Monday night.
The only real hiccup for the champs came in the semi-finals where No. 5 BlockHawks made a run in game two. After SWAT claimed a 25-21 win in game one, the Hawks rebounded in game two by taking a 15-10 lead midway through led by the net work of Mike Kissinger and strong play on its defensive line. The effort pushed the BlockHawks to a 25-19 win in game two, the only game loss SWAT would suffer in the tournament.
Game three was the complete opposite in rhythm as SWAT jumped out to an 8-1 lead on a myriad of unforced errors from the Hawks. The clincher ended 15-6 in favor of SWAT, sending the top seed to the finals to face No. 6 Boomers, which reached the finals by upsetting the No. 2 seed Two Dink Minimum after a 25-16, 25-20 result in the other semi-final.
The finals for SWAT Team were not nearly as difficult as the semis as unforced errors by Boomers on its own side of the net allowed the score to balloon to 9-1 quickly in game one. A thunderous kill by Gordon Yoder in game two had SWAT up 7-3, but a pair of service aces from Andrew Packer kept Boomers close at 7-6 before SWAT closed on an 18-8 run to take the title.
In other games on the night, Two Dink Minimum beat Itsy Bitsy Spikers 25-10, 25-14 and SWAT Team opened the evening with a 25-17, 25-14 win against Top Gun.
