Bulldogs Topple Tigers
WARSAW – The bats were working just fine Tuesday for both Warsaw and Crown Point.
The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 9-8 in prep baseball action at WCHS.
Warsaw trailed 2-0 and 5-3 before scoring four runs in the home half of the third inning to take a 7-5 lead. Crown Point tallied three times in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead before the Tigers plated a single run in the bottom of the fifth to tie it.
Crown Point scored the winning run in the top of the final inning.
The two teams combined for 22 hits, including nine doubles on the windy day. Crown Point also slugged a pair of home runs in the victory.
Ethyn Bradley paced the offense for the Tigers with two hits and three RBI.
Justin Oberlin, Tyler LaFollette and James Brandis each also had two hits for Warsaw. Oberlin and LaFollette each smacked a double for coach Mike Hepler’s squad in its season opener.
Warsaw left 10 runners on base in the loss.
Mitchell Kooi and Logan Granpenthien each swatted a roundtripper for the winners.
Warsaw is scheduled to play South Bend Clay Thursday at 5:30 at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend. The Tigers are then idle until hosting Tippecanoe Valley on April 16 at 5 p.m.
