Rhodes, Wolfe Saluted By IBCA
The duo of Al Rhodes and Aaron Wolfe, a pair of outstanding high school boys basketball coaches with strong ties to Warsaw, have been honored by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Rhodes and Wolfe, the head coaches at Penn and NorthWood respectively, were saluted by their peers as District 1 Coaches of the Year for the 2013-14 season.
Rhodes, the former highly-successful coach at Warsaw, guided the Kingsmen to a 23-2 mark this season. Penn won the NIC and a Class 4-A sectional title.
Rhodes, a 1970 Penn graduate, is now 539-243 in 33 seasons as a head coach. He is 83-51 in six seasons at Penn. Rhodes spent 22 seasons as the head coach of the Tigers, posting a 405-133 mark which included a state championship in 1984.
Rhodes, who was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, has also coached at Logansport and Fort Wayne Northrop.
Wolfe directed the Panthers to a 21-3 mark this season, which included winning the Class 3-A Wawasee Sectional title. Wolfe is now 98-62 in seven seasons at NorthWood with six winning seasons and a sectional title in 2012 as well.
Wolfe, prior to taking over the NorthWood program, spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at WCHS.
