Seniors Aplenty For Prep Tennis Teams
Strong senior classes headline the high school girls tennis scene this spring.
Triton possesses a veteran group with six returning players from a year ago, including four seniors.
The Trojans, who opened their season with a 5-0 loss to a talented Peru team last week, finished 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the Northern State Conference in 2013.
“We’re looking for a great season,” said Triton coach Al Peckham. “We are looking to improve on last year’s record and we also toughened up our schedule this season, adding Peru and the Plymouth Invitational.
“With a good, balanced team, I can change my lineup around a little bit. I’m excited for this season.”
Triton boasts seniors Carrie Slabaugh, Holly Stogsdill, Cassie Irons and Michal Scherer-Berry. Junior Kaelyn Mason and sophomore Shayla May, who played No. 1 and 2 singles respectively in the season opener, are big keys for the Trojans.
The Tippecanoe Valley roster boasts six seniors for coach Rosten Hamman’s squad.
The Vikings’ senior group includes a pair of multiple sport standouts in Kelsey Ball and Cara Hoffman, along with Kate Chantong, Morgan Conliff, Kathy Eagleson and Brittany Riffle.
Valley, which is scheduled to host Triton today, also has juniors Hanna Dalrymple, Kara Eaton, Ariel Schoetmer, Brittany Shafer and Isabel Warren, sophomores Morgan Brazo, Cassidy Cave, Brooke Danner and Whitney Haneline and freshmen Audrey Jackson, Kennedy Niedbalski and Aerin Shewman.
The Whitko roster has four seniors among the nine for coach Jack Wang.
The Wildcats, who opened the season with a 4-1 loss to West Noble, boast seniors Abby Marshall, Erin Murphy, Candice Swick and Kirstyn Womack. The Whitko squad also includes junior Bianca Baier, sophomore Mikayla Findley and freshmen Delaney Keirn, Morgan Keirn and Aurelia Stephens.
