WCHS Salutes Winter Athletes
WARSAW – The selection of Most Valuable Players and Most Improved Players highlight the winter sports awards for the 2013-14 season at WCHS.
Warsaw athletes saluted as MVPs were Jordan Stookey and Nate Pearl for boys basketball, Ashley VanWormer, Cynthia Juarez and Brenna Morgan for girls swimming, Spencer Davidson and Jayden Parrett for boys swimming, Kyle Hatch for wrestling and Molly Borchers for gymnastics.
Athletes recognized as MIPs included Jake Mangas for boys basketball, Megan Bixler for girls swimming, Rory Nolin for wrestling and Nadiya Burritt for gymnastics.
Awards for the boys basketball team went to Stookey (Top Rebounder, Most Assists), Pearl (Free Throw, Coaches Award), Mangas (Free Throw, Best Two Point FG %), Paul Marandet (Free Throw), Tim Swanson (Best Three Point FG %), Brett Anson (Richard L. Price Award) and Aaron Secaur (Richard L. Price Award).
The girls swimming team honored Allison Miller (Rookie of the Year), Charlene Orr (Rookie of the Year), Emily Thompson (Mental Attitude), Mercedes Sanchez (Diving) and Cylie Marshall (Heart Trophy).
Honored from the boys swimming team were Hudson Snyder (Rookie of the Year), Andrew Gauger (Mental Attitude), Steve Reinholt (Diving) and Ethan Cook (Heart Trophy).
The wrestling team saluted Dan Gonzales (JV MVP) and Brady Stout (Mental Attitude).
The girls basketball team handed out awards to Nikki Grose (Rebounding, Free Throw %) and Brooklyn Harrison (Defensive).
The cheerleading squads recognized Mikhayla Kabala (Tiger Award), Lindsay Lybarger (Tiger Award), Tyler Friend (Most Spirited), Katie Seedorf (Most Improved) and Ophelia Luu (Mental Attitude).
