Whitko Sports Wrap – April 18
The Whitko softball team collected a wild 16-13 win over host Columbia City Friday night.
The Wildcats took an early 4-0 lead only to fall behind 8-4. Whitko rallied to tie the game and then got out of a seventh-inning jam to force extra innings.
Whitko plated six runs in the top of the eighth and then held on to post the win.
The Wildcats collected 14 hits in the victory.
Shelby Martin, Kennedy Krull, Maddie Gawthrop, Hanna Yohe, Emily Day and Amanda Shepherd each had two hits to lead the winners. Aly Nicodemus reached base four times for Whitko.
Hanna Yohe earned the pitching win in relief.
Whitko hosts Fort Wayne Carroll Monday at 5 p.m.
Baseball Team Continues To Win
The Whitko baseball team continued its winning ways Friday.
The host Wildcats topped Churubusco 11-6 to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Whitko scored three runs in the first inning to take control right away.
Zach Snep went 2-4 with two RBI to lead the way for the Wildcats. Austin Sturgess also had two hits and Ethan Nicodemus a double for coach Erik Hisner’s talented team.
Tanner Gaff collected the pitching win for Whitko.
The Wildcats play a doubleheader today at Garrett at 11 a.m.
