Tigers Rally To Edge Goshen
WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team definitely saved its best for last Wednesday night.
The hosts came up with a huge rally in their final at-bat to edge Goshen 6-5 in a Northern Lakes Conference contest at the Tigers Athletic Complex.
Warsaw trailed 5-1 entering the home half of the seventh inning. The Tigers plated five runs in the final frame to post the one-run win in the league contest.
Goshen, which drops to 0-2 in the NLC, scored two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Warsaw got one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-1.
Whitney Sleeth pitched a strong game in relief of starter Kaleigh Speicher to get the win for the Tigers. Sleeth allowed no runs over the final three innings and struck out four Goshen batters.
Sleeth also had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Tigers.
Speicher, who got the pitching win Monday in a 3-1 NLC home win over Wawasee, had two hits with a double for the Tigers. The senior also scored two runs and had an RBI.
Karly Jones also had a strong game with two hits, including a double, and two RBI for Warsaw. Taylor Stiver and Taylor Sleeth each had an RBI for the winners.
Losing pitcher Taylor Caouette had a double for Goshen.
Warsaw improves to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in NLC action.
In other NLC games Wednesday, Wawasee whipped Elkhart Memorial 14-1, Concord pounded Plymouth 16-1 and Northridge topped NorthWood 12-0.
The Tigers host Plymouth in NLC action Friday at 5 p.m. Warsaw then entertains Valparaiso Saturday for a twin bill starting at 11 a.m.
