John Glenn Wins Whitko Title
NORTH MANCHESTER – John Glenn worked around the Sycamore Golf Course well enough for a 316 and the best team score of the lot at the Whitko Golf Invite Saturday.
Glenn bested runner-up Wawasee by 12 strokes and a pack of six teams that were all within earshot of one another in the 12-team total field.
Wawasee was led again by Cal Heinisch, who shot the fifth-best score of the day with his 41-38 round of 79, one stroke better than Jeffrey Moore’s 41-39 total of 80. Tristen Atwood finished 39-43 for an 82 and Rasmus Rich carded a 46-41 total of 87.
Northfield finished two back of Wawasee at 330, followed by LaVille at 334 which tied Tippecanoe Valley. Whitko was one behind the tied at 335, with Fairfield at 342. Manchester (379), Central Noble (394), New Prairie (398), West Noble (404) and Wabash (409) rounded out the field at Sycamore.
“I thought we played fairly well,” stated Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone, whose team won the Northrop Invite a week ago. “Rasmus did a nice job overcoming a lost ball triple on nine which led to a 46, with a 41 on the back. We need to be 10-15 strokes better and we can get there by limiting the doubles and triples.”
Daniel Zawlocki fired a round of 77 to lead the host Wildcats.
Will Peters came in with an 81 for Whitko. Cole Bechtold shot an 84 and Matt Hathaway a 94. Seth Patrick finished with a 116 for the Wildcats.
Tyler Prentkowski of champion Glenn was medalist with a two-under par round of 70.
