Valpo Ends Warsaw Win Streak
WARSAW – The winning streak for the Warsaw softball team came to an end Saturday.
Visiting Valparaiso topped the Tigers 11-4 and 20-2 in a twin bill.
Warsaw had entered play Saturday with wins in three straight games, all Northern Lakes Conference contests, after starting the season 0-4.
The Vikings wasted no time Saturday as the guests plated four runs in the top of the first inning. Valparaiso scored runs in the first five innings en route to the win.
The Tigers, who had seven errors in the loss, scored single runs in the second and third innings and a pair in the sixth frame.
Lauren Shaffner led the offense with two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Sidney Hernandez had a double and scored two runs for the Tigers. Julia Smith and Whitney Sleeth each had an RBI.
Starter Taylor Stiver took the pitching loss for Warsaw.
Kara Dishman went 3-3 with an RBI in the loss in game two.
Valparaiso improved to 7-8, while the Tigers drop to 3-6.
Warsaw returns to NLC action Monday at NorthWood at 5 p.m.
