GOSHEN – The Wawasee boys track team notched a seventh-place finish Saturday in the Goshen Relays.

The Warriors, despite not being at full strength and just a day removed from a tough conference win, scored 54 points in the Class B Division of the 72nd annual event.

The outstanding duo of juniors Clayton Cook and JJ Gilmer led the way for coach Scott Lancaster’s team.

Cook won the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.98.

Gilmer captured second place in the high jump with a top effort of 6-2.

Devon Huneberger of NorthWood won the title by clearing 6-4 in the high jump.

The Warriors also got second-place finishes in each of the 1,600 races. Adam Doll was second in one race with a time of 4:31.22, while Zach Cockrill was second in another with a time of 4:43.14.

Standout Cook also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.33.

Jon Walker was third in the discus with a throw of 136-7.

Wawasee was missing several performers who were out of town on a school-related trip.

The Warriors, who are 3-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference, host rival Warsaw and Concord in a league triangular Thursday night in Syracuse.

West Noble totaled 79 points to claim the Class B team championship, edging past Gary West Side with 76.

Fairfield, which had won the last five Class B team titles, was third Saturday with 74 points.

NorthWood was sixth in the final team standings with 55 points, while Whitko finished in 12th place with 38 points.

The Panthers won a pair of races, taking first in the second race of the 4 X 400 and first in the first race of the Distance Medley Relay.

Top finishers for Whitko were Brady Herendeen with a sixth-place effort in the long jump with a leap of 20-0 and Zach Hewitt, who was seventh in the discus with a throw of 128-0.
