Warsaw Ladies Claim Championship
CHURUBUSCO – The Warsaw girls track team just continues to add to the program’s trophy collection.
The Tigers showcased their skills and depth once again Saturday to claim the championship of the Turtletown Invitational.
Coach Scott Erba’s team won the even for the third straight year by piling up 141.5 points, far ahead of runner-up East Noble (71.5).
The Tigers won just three events, but had a plethora of performers score points in the 12-team meet.
Warsaw placed second in all three relay events and had two girls score in nine of the 13 individual events.
Hannah Dawson turned in a fine effort to pace the Tigers. She won the 800 in a top time of 2:24.35 and also teamed with Claire Kehler, Aletheia Burritt and Madeline Hooks to claim first in the 4 X 800 relay in a time of 10:13.67.
Dawson was also a member of the second place 4 X 400 relay team. She paired with Nicole Eckert, Burritt and Anna Craig in a time of 4:17.75.
Eckert notched the other winning performance for Warsaw. She claimed top honors in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.71.
The foursome of Mariah Harter, Samantha Alexander, Ann Harvuot and Jackie Ferguson placed second in the 4 X 100 relay race with a time of 50.44.
Senior Harvuot was second in the 100 (13.25) and third in the 200 (26.78). Claire Hickerson was second in the pole vault (10-0) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.45). Alexander was second in the long jump (16-2) and fifth in the 200 (27.17).
Craig took second in the 800 in a time of 2:25.34. Ferguson was third in the 300 hurdles (51.37) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.69) and Harter was third in the 100 (13.38).
Freshman distance standout Allison Miller placed third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:22.00 and was fifth in the 3,200 in a time of 12:06.45.
Courtney Farling placed fifth in the long jump with a top effort of 14-11.75. Brooke Rhodes was fifth in the 1,600 in 5:25.42 and Shannon Winslow cleared 8-0 to place fifth in the pole vault. Emily Bailey was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 30-10.5 and Emma Hayward was eighth in the 3,200 in a time of 12:19.36.
Warsaw will host Elkhart Memorial and Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference action Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Tigers are 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the NLC.
Warsaw will look to repeat as champions of the Kokomo Relays on Saturday, May 3.
