Panthers Prevail Over Tigers
NAPPANEE – The Warsaw softball team dropped its first conference game of the season Tuesday evening at NorthWood.
The host Panthers built a lead and then held on to edge the Tigers 6-5 in a Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Warsaw scored first with two runs in the top of the third inning. The Panthers plated a pair in the home half of the third frame to tie the game. NorthWood then scored four more runs in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. Warsaw scored three times in their final at-bat in the seventh.
Senior Kaleigh Speicher took the pitching loss for Warsaw, which drops to 3-7 overall and 3-1 in the NLC.
Taylor Troxel picked up the pitching win for the Panthers.
Speicher had two hits and scored two runs for the Tigers. Junior Karly Jones had two hits with a double and two RBI. Freshman Lauren Shaffner had two hits with a double and drove in two runs and freshman Kalie Keener had two hits.
Alli Mattingly led the offense for the Panthers with four hits.
Summer Stillson and Lexi Bergman each drove in two runs for the winners.
Warsaw plays at Northridge and NorthWood travels to Elkhart Memorial for NLC games on Wednesday evening.
