Concord Grads Named VB Coaches
A pair of area high school volleyball programs will be directed by former Concord High School players come next season.
Callie Patrick will take over the highly-successful program at Fairfield High School. Patrick, formerly Callie Hartman, was named the new coach of the Falcons on Friday.
Patrick, a 2009 Concord graduate, was a team MVP and a two-time All-NLC selection during her high school career. She went on to be a four-year starter at Bethel College. Patrick was an assistant coach at Concord this past season.
Patrick replaces Carla Herschberger, who retired after the 2013 season. Herschberger had an incredible 13-year tenure at Fairfield, amassing a 387-80 record. Her program won 10 straight sectional championships (which is still active) and advanced to the State Finals five times. The Falcons were Class 2-A state runner-up to national power Muncie Burris in both 2006 and 2010.
Kelly Hale, a 2003 Concord graduate, was named earlier this past week as the new coach at her alma mater.
Hale was an assistant coach at Concord from 2008-2011 and then spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Goshen College under coach Jim Routhier, the former coach at Concord. Hale competed in volleyball, basketball and track in high school and volleyball and track at Ohio Northern University.
Hale, who has been a member of the Concord girls track staff since 2008, replace Laurie Rhoades. Rhoades resigned in the fall after going 133-71 in six seasons at Concord.
Both Patrick and Hale are club coaches for the Northern Indiana Volleyball Association.
