Redskins Rally Past Warsaw
GOSHEN – A late rally earned the Goshen softball team a win over Warsaw Friday night.
The host Redskins erased a three-run deficit to top the Tigers 8-5 in a Northern Lakes Conference game at Shanklin Park.
Warsaw, which scored five runs in its final at bat to beat Goshen 6-5 in their first meeting on April 23, built a 4-1 Friday.
The Redskins rallied with five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead. The hosts added two more tallies in the sixth frame. Goshen rallied in the fifth after Warsaw starting pitcher Kaleigh Speicher had to leave the game after being hit in the leg by a line drive.
Whitney Sleeth, who took the pitching loss for Warsaw, led the offense with two hits.
Ashley Ousley drove in two runs for the Tigers. Sidney Hernandez, Karly Jones and Kara Dishman each had a double for Warsaw.
Winning pitcher Taylor Caouette drove in a run and scored a run for Goshen.
Brittany Jones had three hits, including two doubles for the winners. Brooke Miller had two hits, two RBI and two runs and Emily Castillo had two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.
The junior varsity game on Friday was cancelled.
Warsaw drops to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in the NLC with the loss. Goshen improves to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in league play.
Warsaw plays at Plymouth Monday, hosts Andrean Tuesday and then hosts NorthWood Wednesday and Northridge Friday.
Goshen hosts Elkhart Memorial Monday and Fairfield Tuesday. The Redskins then play at Plymouth Wednesday and host Concord Friday.
