North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce donated $500 to the Webster Lake Conservation Association’s fireworks fund, it was announced by chamber treasurer Stacey Cox, Pletcher Insurance. She presided in the absence of president Sue Ward, Sue’s Creations. The busyness of the season made for low attendance at the monthly May meeting Monday at the American Legion Post 253.

The local lake association puts on the annual fireworks. The 2014 date is Saturday, July 5. The fireworks will be launched off of Kline Island around 10:15 p.m.

Dixie Day is on the books for Saturday, July 26. It is the celebration of the antique sternwheel paddleboat that has toured Webster Lake for 85 years. A Dixie Day committee meeting will be held at noon, Wednesday, May 21 at the Tippecanoe Township Building, 102 S. Morton St. Those wishing to volunteer to assist with one of the many Dixie Day activities are encouraged to attend the meeting. Help is especially needed for the set-up and or clean-up committee, the 5K walk/run and the chamber booth on Pilcher’s lawn.

Dixie Day T-shirts will be ordered soon. Sponsoring businesses names will appear on the back of the shirt. May 21 is the deadline. Colors for 2014 are orange sherbet, pistachio and aquatic blue.

The Papers Inc. was named as May Business of the month with the sign being delivered by Jen Ducey, Tippecanoe Township. Paula Miller, Paula Miller Farms, agreed to assist in delivering the sign each month.

The North Webster Community Guide for 2014-2015 has been published and is now available for businesses to hand out to customers. Copies can be picked up at the chamber office in the township building. This is an excellent presentation of information for locals and visitors alike. Call 574-834-7076.

The chamber is raising funds by holding a shoe drive. Used shoes can be donated in boxes at several locations. North Webster Elementary, Wawasee Middle and Wawasee High are also collecting shoes for the chamber.

The next general meeting of the chamber will be noon, Monday, June 9, North Webster American Legion Post 253, 756 S. SR 13. All members and interested parties are welcome to attend.
