WCS Considers Main Office Renovations
Yesterday during the Warsaw Community School Corporation’s monthly board work session, the school board reviewed the the possible renovation of a human resources space located at the school corporation’s main office at 1 Administration Drive, Warsaw, as well as the purchase of a new entertainment system for the baseball field.
Future WCS Superintendent and current Assistant Superintendent David Hoffert presented information to the board on converting the old board room to a human resources space. According to Hoffert, the human resources department for WCS is currently located in the basement of the main administration building and Hoffert believes moving the department up to the first floor will not only be safer but more convenient for teachers.
The renovation would update the reception area, allow for first floor meeting areas for interviews and HR discussions and create a common meeting area from instructional coaches currently scattered through the various schools.
Hoffert noted the project would help create a warm and inviting feel to visitors. WCS current Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz also noted that many teachers struggle with the stairs leading down to the current HR department and are forced to go along the outside side entrance of the building. Though the school corporation looked to put in an elevator at one time, WCS Chief Financial Officer Kevin Scott said installation of the elevator is extremely costly.
Should the board vote in favor of pursuing the project, Hoffert and Scott will pursue bids based on a current plan drawn up by an architect for the school corporation. The project would not exceed $120,000. The funding for the project would come out of the school’s construction fund, not capital projects, which was left seriously debilitated by the over $400,000 spent on snow removal this winter.
Several members of the board, including Delores Hearn, Randy Polston and board president Jennifer Tandy, noted the need to remember the necessary repairs for Lincoln Elementary during the discussion about renovations of the HR department. To view the current HR renovation plan, click HERE.
According to WCS Athletics Director Dave Anson, the current system in the baseball press box has become old and dated. Anson the system can only play tapes and because it is not portable, has been left in the press box during winters and summers. The new system Anson hopes to see installed would be portable, allowing it to be stored during harsh seasons and shared amongst other fields.
The system he is looking to purchase is from Sweetwater and will cost approximately $4,985.34. Anson noted that sporting fields that would see updates of sound systems in the future could include the Tiger Den and the softball field, which both also have dated systems according to Anson.
Other quotes noted during the board work session will include annual gym floor maintenance for all buildings except the high school, renewal of the Horizon Software utilized for point of sale machine in school cafeterias and yearly asphalt pavement maintenance, all of which total $105,742.33.
