Tigers Third In CMA Golf Invite
CULVER – The Warsaw boys golf team notched a third place finish Saturday in the Culver Academy Invitational.
The Tigers posted a team score of 322 in the 14-team field played at the par 72 Mystic Hills layout.
The invitational was scored on a best four scores per hole system and not on the best four scores overall.
Mishawaka Marian claimed the team title by shooting 317. Harrison was runner-up with 321 with coach Ben Barkey’s Tigers in third with a 322.
The duo of Will Petro and Ryan Cultice each shot a round of 82 to pace Warsaw.
Brandon Eckert came in with an 83 and Jonny Hollar at 84 for the Tigers. Reid Cameron shot a 94 for Warsaw.
Tanner Shepherd of Triton earned medalist honors on the day with a three-over par round of 75.
Plymouth was fourth in the final team standings at 327, followed by CMA Maroon (328), NorthWood (329), Triton (335), Elkhart Memorial (336), Wawasee (340), Glenn (341), South Bend St. Joseph (349), Winamac (367), South Bend Adams (375) and CMA White (406).
Wawasee had a 78 from Tristen Atwood, but slid back with Jeffrey Moore at 84, Cal Heinisch at 91, Mason Germonprez at 97 and Rasmus Rich at 98.
Warsaw will have a busy week of conference action this week. The Tigers, who are 2-1 in Northern Lakes Conference play, face league opponents Goshen and Concord Tuesday at Maplecrest in Goshen. Warsaw then takes on host Northridge and NorthWood Thursday at Spring Valley in Middlebury.
The NLC Tournament is set for Saturday, May 24 at the Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart.
The Warsaw junior varsity team also posted a third place finish on Saturday. The JV Tigers shot 356 in the Westville Invitational contested at Legacy Hills.
The pair of Luke Johnson and Andrew Gauger each shot an 86 to lead the JV squad.
Mike Jensen fired an 88, while Tim Rata had a 96 and Rob Sullivan a 102 for Warsaw.
Boone Grove won the JV invite with a 315. LaVille was second with a 339, followed by Warsaw (356), Plymouth (357), Triton (363), South Central (375), Morgan Township (384), Knox (415), North Judson (422), Westville (423), River Forest (530) and Calumet (552).
