Furnivall Picks Pumas
WARSAW – Warsaw standout Gabe Furnivall has displayed cat-like speed, agility and aggressiveness on the football field and on the tracks around the state through his years as a Tiger, and the senior North All-Star has selected to stay a cat but shed the stripes and play football next fall for the Saint Joseph’s Pumas.
Furnivall, a two-time all Northern Lakes Conference football player, was elected to the North Indiana All-Star team this past season after a stellar senior year where he helped lead the Tigers to one of their best seasons in recent years – a 7-4 mark and a second straight conference runner-up finish. Furnivall made his presence known on the field as a free safety and on special teams where he turned in defensive highlight reels on a nightly basis for head coach Phil Jensen and defensive coordinator Kris Hueber. Demonstrating a tremendous ability to get to ball carriers to deliver hits or defend against the pass, Furnivall also took snaps on the offensive side of the ball at times as well, giving opposing defenses fits in defending the Tigers’ offense.
On the Track, Furnivall has been named All-Conference, All-Sectional, and Junior All-State. Furnivall’s standout performances in the 400 dash and on Tiger relay teams has Warsaw poised for another state tournament track & field run.
Furnivall has not only been impressive on the track and on the field for the Tigers, he was instrumental in several service-oriented projects throughout his years at WCHS, including this year’s efforts to raise money for an injured opponent. Furnivall was the first Tiger athlete that stepped forward and expressed the desire to host an event for an injured opponent, and the team reached beyond the outskirts of the town, county or conference to extend their assistance and service to one of their own who was in need.
With impressive hits and performances on the field and in the community, Furnivall has also turned in a solid effort in the classroom, earning a B average through his first seven semesters at WCHS.
Furnivall intends to study Natural Sciences at Saint Josephs and play football for the Pumas and head coach Cory Sanders.
