25 and Oh, So Perfect!
SYRACUSE – Zero is not always a good thing, but the Wawasee Warrior junior varsity softball team has had a love affair with the number all season.
The Warriors ran the table from day one of the 2014 season and hosted its year-end tournament Saturday afternoon to complete the historic campaign. Wawasee picked up win numbers 24 and 25 in dominating fashion to win the tournament and complete their season at 25-0.
Wawasee used 12 hits and 10 runs to topple John Glenn in the first game of the invitational, 10-0. Kayla white was 4-4 from the plate and scored three runs for the Warriors. Nicole Streby also helped Wawasee with a triple as the Warriors defeated Glenn in six innings of play.
Wawasee lost no momentum in the championship game and even managed to get its undefeated celebration started early.
The Warriors only needed five innings to take care of Central Noble, claiming an 11-1 victory.
In game two Wawasee produced 18 hits and poured on the hurt in the third inning with six runs. Priscilla Weikart was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, Streby was 3-for-3 with three runs of her own while Christy Carson was also 3-for-3.
Of course, any good team performance on the diamond starts with solid pitching in the circle. Freshman Hannah Haines provided that circle supremacy for the Warriors in both games. Haines pitched complete games in both contests, giving up just the one earned run, six total hits, no walks and dished out a combined 22 strikeouts.
