Warsaw Third In Bob Turner Classic
LEESBURG – The Warsaw boys golf team turned in a season-best performance Tuesday night.
It still was not good enough to catch NorthWood or Fort Wayne Dwenger though.
The host Tigers shot a season-best team total of 303 to place third in their own Bob Turner Classic at the Tippecanoe Lake Country CLub.
NorthWood fired an outstanding total of 291 to win the 11-team event.
Alec Dutkowski of the champion Panthers shot a round of 68 to claim medalist honors for the tourney.
Warsaw shot 322 on Saturday to place second in the Northern Lakes Conference Tournament at Christiana Creek in Elkhart. NorthWood was third Saturday with a 327.
Dwenger, ranked No. 5, shot a 296 Tuesday night to earn runner-up honors.
Ryan Cultice fired a round of 72 to pace coach Ben Barkey’s Warsaw Black team, the varsity unit which is ranked No. 18 in the state.
Jonny Hollar shot a 74 and Will Petro a 75 for the hosts. Brandon Eckert had an 82 and Michael Jensen an 84 for Warsaw.
The Warsaw Orange team shot 351. Reid Cameron and Josh Ahlersmeyer each shot a round of 84. Tim Rata had an 85 and Andrew Gauger a 98.
Robbie Sullivan shot a 96 and Kole Komdeur a 97 competing as individuals for Warsaw.
Homestead and Penn each shot 317 to tie for fourth place in the final team standings. Fort Wayne Canterbury finished at 318, followed by Elkhart Memorial (321), Wawasee (328), Triton (334), Tippecanoe Valley (350) and Warsaw Orange (351).
For the Warriors, Tristen Atwood paced the group with a 75, followed by Jeffrey Moore (82), Cal Heinisch (83), Mason Germonprez (88) and Rasmus Rich (92).
Warsaw will compete in the Lafayette Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers then will host the sectional June 6 at Rozella Ford. Wawasee will visit Columbia City at Eagle Glen this Thursday.
