Leesburg Memorial Day Committee Extends Gratitude
Dear Editor,
The Leesburg community honored those who have served in the military with a Memorial Day parade and service. Thomas Moore welcomed all to Leesburg. The Boy Scouts raised the flag, followed by Martin Becker playing “To the Colors.” The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Brad Kellar singing the “Star Spangled Banner.”
The parade was directed by Craig Charlton. The Old Pro Shop provided golf carts for the veterans. A veterans float was pulled by Everest Excavating. Farmers State Bank provided funds for the tokens of appreciation for those participating.
The ceremony at the Leesburg Cemetery was directed by Sue Richey. The music was provided by pastor Mike Beezley of the Clunette United Methodist Church, who was also the speaker. Christina Archer read the memorial roster for the Leesburg, Oswego and Clunette cemeteries. After the deceased were saluted, the taps were played by Martin Becker. The power supply was provided by Leesburg United Methodist Church.
Popcorn was served by the Robert Allen family and friends. Hot dogs and drinks were provided by Maple Leaf Farms and served by the Leesburg Brethren Church.
The flag raising, parade and service at the cemetery was enjoyed and greatly appreciated. There was great community participation. The attendance was fantastic as the people lined the brick streets to watch the many participants.
The committee would like to express its gratitude to Derik Tenney for the patriotic music and sound system prior to the parade. Also, to Brandon Queen for all the work getting the town looking really great for Memorial Day.
In addition, the committee is grateful for each and every one that helped and/or participated in this meaningful community event. The members were extremely pleased by the dedication of the community in showing appreciation to those who served our country. We are looking forward to a great day again next year.
