Raider Richie To Walk-On At IU
MIDDLEBURY – The Indiana University men’s basketball roster will boast a familiar name next season to area hoops fans.
Nate Richie, a recent graduate of Northridge High School, will be a preferred walk-on for the Hoosiers.
Richie announced the decision Tuesday on his Twitter account.
Richie, a 6-7 forward, averaged almost 24 points and 7.6 rebounds per game his senior season for the Raiders. He led Northridge to an 18-3 overall mark, including winning the Northern Lakes Conference title at 7-0 in league play.
Richie, who had offers from Division I programs Air Force and Toledo, finished his high school career with 1,388 points.
The last area player to walk-on for the Hoosiers was Kory Barnett of Rochester. The 6-5 forward was a member of the IU program from 2008-12.
Among other area players to walk-on for the Hoosiers was former Elkhart Memorial two-sport star Ross Hales in the mid 1990s. John Ritter, a former standout at Goshen High School, was a scholarship player at IU in the early 1970s.
