UPDATE: House Fire at Reed Street
A rare and unusual incident sparked a small electrical fire at a vacant house in Warsaw.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., firefighters of the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory were dispatched to a residence at the corner of Reed and Smith streets. WFD Battalion Chief Ed Kipker tells StaceyPageOnline.com this morning that the fire was caused by “a floating neutral. The house has no power but the neutral was still hooked up,” said Kipker. “The electric was basically looking for a ground and it settled there. It’s a very rare incident.”
WWFT, assisted by Winona Lake Fire Department, were able to quickly control the fire, which resulted in about $2,000 in damages.
NIPSCO was called to the scene to secure the electrical element.
